The Way It All Began
Chris Ayrton was the founder of the Kimbolton Classic Car Club (KCCC). His first car was a 1936 Wolseley Wasp which he bought on his 18th birthday in 1955 for £40. In those early days, you could buy a car, look after it and sell it at a profit. The Wolseley sold after 18 months for £60.
From that time he always managed to keep an interesting car in his garage.
After marriage and ongoing house expenses, in 2004 he had to sell his beloved Jaguar E type series I roadster.
Having lost his wife after a long illness he was lying in bed during the Covid shutdown wondering what he was going to do to make life enjoyable again.
One night he decided to buy a Jaguar E type Series 3 2+2.
It came to pass and once acquired he had to decide what to do to get full enjoyment from the car and so approached three other friends in Kimbolton and suggested they should start a classic car club.
So, after adding more classic car owners to the club, the Kimbolton Classic Car Club had it’s first meeting and run on Saturday 4th July 2021.
Now three years later the KCCC has 38 members with over 45 vehicles listed.
Sadly, Chris passed away in May 2024 but his vision for the KCCC remains, and the club proudly continues in his memory.
